Several months ago I was approached by The Veil Magazine to be their wardrobe stylist for the March 2008 bridal editorial. I immediately said yes simply because I LOVE bridal gowns and who doesn’t love shopping for beautiful accessories and shoes! Once the editorial was completely I was asked to do a beauty story as well as write the beauty editorial. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and was excited the opportunity had finally presented itself. Thank you Denise for allowing me to be a part of the team as well as share with your magazine and it’s readers the immense passion I have for makeup.
Here is the editorial spread with the story below:

Get The Glow :: Key Beauty Secrets For All Seasons

Everyone dreams about looking gorgeous on their wedding day! As a professional makeup artist, it is a joy to help brides achieve this dream. Rather than following a strict list of rules about makeup, I only have two suggestions for brides: first, I tell them to make sure their makeup showcases their personalities, and second ensure the look they chose will last throughout the day.
One of the most popular beauty trends of 2008 is going to be glowing skin. To achieve this look, one should take good care of their skin everyday by keeping it hydrated and being aware of practical care with facials. (Those with worse skin conditions should consider seeing a dermatologist.) Having good skin will allow the makeup to wear better on the face.
For glowing skin try a sheer look, with a water-based foundation. If you want more coverage with a matte look try a cream to powder base. To keep the celebrity glow all day, use a cream based blush with peachy gold undertones. To ensure a look that will last all day, consider using the following types of products: water resistant foundations, cream blushes, and cream or water resistant shadow bases. When it comes to shadows try to keep it simple with basic sweeps of soft colors in taupe, peachy/pinks and plums. For a smoky eye, try a brown or plum to give a softer look than black shadow. If black is a must, choose a black with gold flecks in it to lessen the severity. Also, be sure to use waterproof mascara to prevent streaking or smudges.
Lip color plays an important part of the entire look by tying all the elements together. I prefer to keep my brides glossy with sheer or slightly deeper shades. Lipsticks and pencils tend to crease and disappear requiring the bride to constantly reapply. If you find yourself overwhelmed, I highly recommend seeking out a professional makeup artist. They have all the tools to assist you in choosing colors and styles that will work best for you. It is a great way to relax and allow someone to take care of you for a little while! Besides, what girl doesn’t need a little pampering before their wedding day?

As many of you already know, I did makeup and hair for the IZOD Spring ’08 campaign. The images are starting to surface in some pretty high end magazines and I just had to share with you a few of the ads. It’s such a thrill and an incredible sense of accomplishment to see the work I’ve done over the past five years now starting to shine for the world to see.
The crew on this job was so amazing. Our photographer, Troy Plota (www.troyplota.com) is SO talented and the type of photographer one dreams of working with! His great attitude and driven desire to get the right shot made the four days of shooting a breeze. Sue, Andrea and myself created the Triple Threat Team and boy did we hash out some rawking makeup and hair! Thanks ladies for such an amazing time! Chad and Laura were a magical team to watch with wardrobe and set styling … true magicians with their craft.
The best part of the job was being in Cancun, Mexico for four days! What a great location for a photo shoot! I can’t even begin to describe how gorgeous it was. Perfect weather, fantastic crew, gorgeous models, great clothes … it all adds up to what you see below! A HUGE thanks to Tarrah and Joanie for letting me be a part of the team and for asking me back again for the next campaign!
Here are a few ads/posters that have shown up in the past couple of weeks!

I just had to share with all of you the wonderful experience I had over the weekend working in Chicago with a band called The Graduate. First, I have to say they were an amazing group of guys with fantastic vocals, hilarious personalities and a rare dose of humility that I found absolutely enchanting. The music video shoot was for one of their hit songs, “I Survived”. The lyrics are below and the song can be found for purchase on iTunes and in Best Buy Stores across the country. Thanks to Corey (lead vocals), Matt (keyboard, guitar), Max (guitar), Jared (base) and Tim (one mean drummer) for letting me be a part of their video shoot and for the great laughs and inspiring music! I’m a total fan forever!

I Survived
This is goodbye
After months of situating
I can finally leave this sorry town behind
And I’m alright
When they ask for me
My friends can smile and tell the world
That I survived
As I’m about to leave
I’ve filled a million empty pages
Passed my word and do my best to sing
So what do I need
Something could become of those
Who think and talk and live like me
I don’t want to die today
I want to live and love and write it down
I can live a life of dreams
And be grateful I’m around
This is goodbye
After months of careful planning
I can finally leave this dried up town behind
And I’m alright
Yeah, this used to be our city
This used to be our only light
I just want to walk away
I want to write but there’s a consequence
That all my friends read everything I do and I say
I don’t need a razorblade
All I need are sounds of ecstasy
And I won’t die today
Yeah, I’ll be living, loving, writing down
And I’ll live a life of dreams
And be grateful I’m around

I recently had the pleasure of attending the American Beauty Tour in Chicago that Billy B and The Powder Group are sharing across the US. Billy B has been an inspiration to me and a “hero” if you will, in the makeup industry. Meeting him two years ago in NYC was a dream come true! Actually getting to sit down and talk to him this time around, share my portfolio with him and talk shop meant even more to me.
While at the class Billy B once again left me awe struck with the way he works on a face. Even when you think you’re good, watching someone who is great gives you such an incredible measure of humility regarding where you really stand with your craft. Billy B introduced his brush line which, of course, what artist isn’t nuts over new goodies to fill her already 50+ pound kit?! These brushes were my downfall. I learned much watching Billy and obviously had to purchase the adorable little half sized, light wood handled, custom designed brushes. Having a fellow artist design brushes around what they currently use and have adapted into their routine was such an attractive “must have” than what any makeup store could sell to me.
Since purchasing the brushes I have been SO excited with the results. There’s something about the density of the brushes and the abscence of super long useless handles. You’ll find as I did, more control over your work and surprisingly an even steadier hand. Thank you SO much Billy B for introducing this set to the industry.

You can purchase your own 13 piece set at www.BillybBEAUTY.com at a very reasonable price of $249.
My Favorite brushes if you’re looking for individuals are: Four, Six, Eight and Twelve

It is so exciting to be able to present the latest update to Crazypretty.com! I can’t tell you how grateful I am to my husband, Brice who has worked tirelessly on making my site a beautiful home for my work to be showcased.
Over time I’m sure there will be continuous developments to the site as well as additional photos and tearsheets from the amazing opportunities that have afforded themselves to me.
I want to say a quick thank you to all the art directors, photographers, hair stylist, wardrobe stylists, friend and family who have made my dreams come true. There have been some amazing friend I have made through this industry and I thank you for being such an amazing support to me in my quest to be a good and as well known as you are!
So in keeping this short and sweet I welcome you to the site and my work and hope you will come back often to see what’s happening!
